Community Sustainability Action grants

The Community Sustainability Action grants provide grant funding to eligible community groups and individuals for innovative projects which seek to address climate change, conserve Queensland’s natural and built environment and protect our unique wildlife.

The program supports locally based, community driven projects which encourage real change in Queensland communities.

Current rounds open for applications

Round 8—Conservation Outcomes for Watercourse Ecosystems

Applications for Round 8—Conservation Outcomes for Watercourse Ecosystems of the Community Sustainability Action grants program is now open.

Grants of between $50,000 and $200,000 will be provided for projects that undertake on-ground activities that directly generate conservation outcomes for Watercourse Ecosystems within certain locations across Queensland (eligible bioregions).

Activities include revegetation, weed control, pest control, fire management, riverbank stabilisation and erosion control.

Applications will be accepted from:

properly established incorporated associations (incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981)
properly established not-for-profit organisations including those registered under the Corporations Act 2001 or the Co-operatives National Law Act (must include evidence attached of constitution for non-for-profit organisations)
Australian charities registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC)
Indigenous corporations incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cwlth)
Natural Resource Management (NRM) bodies.

Round 8—Wildlife Carers Assistance

Applications for Round 8—Wildlife Carers Assistance of the Community Sustainability Action grants program is now open.

Funding is available for eligible wildlife carers and wildlife care organisations to increase capacity to assist with rescue and rehabilitation services for sick, injured or orphaned wildlife.

Funding will be provided under one of the following categories:

Category 1: Grants of up to $10,000 are available to individual wildlife carers
Category 2: Grants of up to $25,000 are available for wildlife care organisations.

Applications will be accepted from individuals and not for profit organisations that:

hold a current Queensland rehabilitation permit as an individual wildlife rehabilitator or wildlife care group; and
are undertaking or intend to undertake rehabilitation activities in accordance with their rehabilitation permit issued by the department.

Successful applicants under Round 6—Conservation—Community Engagement of Queensland’s National Parks and State Forests have been announced.

Round 5—Litter and Marine Debris Clean up and Prevention

Successful applicants under Round 5—Litter and Marine Debris Clean Up and Prevention have been announced.

A total of 28 projects have been successful in applying for more than $1.1 million in grant funding for projects which seek to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and/or litter and marine debris in our environment. See details of the successful projects.

In 2021-2022, an additional $1.6 million was made available to 17 community groups under this category to assist with the clean-up of debris and litter in flood-affected communities between the Gold Coast and Wide Bay.

Round 2—Environmental Conservation

Round 8—Koala Applied Research South East Queensland (SEQ)

Successful applicants under Round 8—Koala Applied Research South East Queensland (SEQ) have been announced.

A total of six projects have been successful in applying for more than $490,000 in grant funding to undertake practical and applied research projects to support the long-term conservation of koalas in South East Queensland. See details of successful projects.

Round 7—Queensland Threatened Species Recovery

Successful applicants under Round 7—Queensland Threatened Species Recovery have been announced.

Round 4—Threatened Species Recovery and Resilience

Successful applicants under Round 4—Threatened Species Recovery and Resilience have been announced.

A total of 19 projects have been successful in applying for more than $1.3 million in grant funding for projects that will directly benefit threatened flora and fauna species negatively impacted by bushfire and drought (in 2019–2020) and projects to build threatened species resilience to climate change.
